1906 Stanley Steamer Runabout Model EX
Body: Two seater runabout.
Engine: Two cylinder simple double acting with a bore of 3 inches and a stroke of 4 inches directly geared to the back axle. (No clutch or gear box). Develops about 10 hp.
Boiler: Fire tube type 18 inches in diameter and 15 inches high with over 473 copper tubes providing an effective heating surface of 66 square feet and steam superheater. Operating steam pressure 450 psi. The car is non condensing.
Burner: Stanley bunsen type, petrol fired with a Packard petrol pilot light.
Fuel System: Main fuel tank supplies an engine operated fuel pump. The pilot is pressurised to 20 psi from a separate pressurised fuel tank.
Capacities: Fuel - 14 gallons, Water - 30 gallons, Oil - 4 pints.
Controls: Steam throttle, reversing pedal, hand water and fuel pressure pump, 2 water bypass valves, fuel supply valve, main steam valve, foot pedal brake and steam chest vent.
Instruments: Boiler water level gauge, fuel pressure gauge, steam pressure gauge, pilot fuel pressure gauge, water tank level gauge.
Performance: Takes about 15 minutes to raise full steam from cold. Cruises comfortably at 40 to 50 mph, with excellent hill climbing capability and acceleration. Maximum speed is probably around 60 mph. Range is about 35 miles before water need replenishment.
